School Uniforms & Dress Code

As you know, we at STA School have a uniform code. In choosing to send your child to a school that requires a uniform, you are following a tradition established many generations ago in our Catholic schools. The wearing of a school uniform is meant to accomplish three things:
- Instill in each student institutional loyalty and a sense of belonging.
- To remove the distraction of clothing as a status symbol, therby promoting equality among all of our students regardless of financial availability.
- Promote modesty and decorum as being more important than fashion.
We ask that you please respect the uniform code by ensuring that your child comes to school dressed appropriately.
We do try to keep our students comfortable in their uniforms by taking into account changing weather as well as styles. It appears, however, that students attempt from time to time to push the boundaries of the uniform code. Your help is needed for us to properly enforce our rules. Though the uniform is meant to show equality among peers and remove status symbols from our learning environment, slight differences--such as colored stitching, extra pockets and zippers, a colored t-shirt underneath a uniform shirt, or a sweatshirt over a student's uniform shirt--are not acceptable. With a little extra vigilance at home and at school, the students should adjust quickly.

All plaid uniform pieces can be purchased at My Aplus Uniforms, FlynnO'Hara and Land's End- check the plaid with the school office before purchasing from other companies. The uniform exchange closet is open year round. Purchases can be made by even exchange or $5.00 per item.
Uniform Dress Code

ALL SCHOOL SHIRTS, SWEATERS, DRI FIT PULLOVERS and FLEECE JACKETS MUST HAVE THE EMBROIDERED STA LOGO TO BE WORN IN CLASS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.
The Evergreen DRI FIT Pullover is for ALL STA students in Preschool - Grade 8
The Black DRI FIT Pullover may be worn by students in grades 6 - 8
Please contact the office if you have questions regarding the dress code. Click here for examples of acceptable school shoes. School shoes must be a solid, single color; black, dark brown or navy, including the (visible from the side) sole of the shoe. The example shoes shown were found at Payless, DSW, Zumiez, Stride Rite, Kohl's and online retailers.

Dress Code
SHOES FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS
***Only necessary if athletic shoes are not worn as part of the school uniform***
Any color and style of athletic shoe may be worn for Physical Education class. Following class, students will be required to change back into their school uniform shoe.

Food Bank/Casual Dress Days
One Monday per month STA students are asked to donate food to St. John Food Pantry as
an act of corporal mercy in the Catholic tradition. As a gesture of gratitude for their
donations, the school permits participating students to dress casually for that day. Students
not wishing to participate should wear their uniforms as usual. Please know that even on
casual dress days dress should still adhere to the modest values and guidelines of the
Catholic Church.
Items that may NEVER be worn on casual dress days
Jeans with holes and rips
Overly snug skinny jeans
Yoga pants without a tunic top to mid-thigh (5th – 8th grade)
Leggings without a tunic top to mid-thigh (5th – 8th grade)
T-shirts with inappropriate language or images
Open toe shoes of any kind

UNIFORM CLOSET UPDATE
The uniform closet is open all year for families to replace uniforms that students have out grown or are no longer suitable for school ( stained, rips and tears). Exchanges are made without additional payment if the item returned is clean and ready to wear. Please launder all clothing prior to return/exchange. Pieces may be exchanged for a like item - shirt for a shirt, shorts for shorts, jumper for a jumper ... Additional items may be purchased at $5.00 each. Before the school year begins in early August, we hold a gently used uniform sale/exchange in the gymnasium. Many hands are needed to get everything sorted for the sale.
